bbm StudentsMysore :  The college student, who assaulted his former lecturer in city on Saturday, was arrested along with his accomplice last night by the Jayalakshmipuram Police.

The accused Praveen, 22, a final year BBM student of Jnanadeepa College in T.K. Layout, was arrested from near his residence in Hinkal. His accomplice Prathap, 22, who rode Praveen’s Pulsar bike (KA-09, ET-5390) while committing the crime, was also arrested.

Prathap, who rode Praveen’s bike while committing the crime of hacking Lokesh, a lecturer and administrator at Kuvempu Vidyavardhaka Trust College, was arrested at around 11 pm and the bike seized by Police Inspector Krishnappa and team.

Praveen is said to have confessed with the Police that he bore a grudge against Lokesh for debarring him from Kuvempu Vidyavardhaka college.

Lokesh, in his statement to the Police yesterday, alleged that Praveen was a trouble-maker while in college, damaging furniture, fighting with fellow students, eve-teasing, etc., for which he was debarred.

Prathap, who works as a field officer in a private company, told the Police that he was not aware that his friend Praveen was going to attack the lecturer.

“Praveen came to my residence in Hinkal and asked to go along with him. We waited near the petrol bunk close to St. Joseph’s School. When Lokesh came that way on his motorbike, Praveen told me that he wanted to speak to Lokesh urgently and asked me to ride the motorbike and catch up with him. As we closed in on Lokesh near the EasyDay mall in Jayalakshmipuram, Praveen flung the machete at Lokesh and missed him. In the second attempt, the machete struck Lokesh on his back and he fell down,” said Prathap.

Both have been remanded to judicial custody.
