3 day lights festival, from October 25 to 27 in Karnataka

DiwaliMangalore: Diwali or festival of earthen lamps and hanging lanterns is just a few days away, on October 26, as a 3 day lighting event with Naraka Chathurdashi, Go-Puja, Laxmi Puja and opening of new books of accounts by traders.

The event is celebrated in many ways all over India. It begins with water-filling on 25th evening and an oil bath at down on October 26. People wear fresh and new clothes, visit temples and distribute sweet boxes.

Crackers and fireworks are burst at night till down.

Lord Krishna killed Narakasura on Chaturdashi (14th day), a day before Amavasya, the dark night when earthen, lamps line up burning in the homes on Noisy nights. The last day is Bali Padyami, in honour of King Bali. There is also the northern Bhai-dooj, a period event when sisters honour brothers, like Yamuna feting Yama. Rama entered Ayodhya on Diwali day.
