Sullia: 6 persons were arrested for assaulting Dalit leader K.S. Shivaramu of Jagrutha Vedike, when he went to see a Madesnana event at Kukke on Wednesday.

His curiosity was misunderstood by Malekudiyas. He was chased around and beaten by a group belonging to the Government run Kukke Subrahmanya temple in Sullia taluk, the state CM’s home taluk.

Shivaramu had given a memorandum urging the DK. Dt. administration against the public ritual of Madesnana(rolling over plantain leaves and leftovers after Brahmins had taken meals).

In fact, the DK DC had disallowed MadeSnana earlier, but the Udupi minister, Dr.V S Acharya reversed his decision to continue the ritual in which 2500 devotees tool part on last day of Kukke Shashti.

Shivaramu had identified one Nagesh and 25 others as attackers. A case was registered by local police against all those accused. But Nagesh has absconded, and cops are after him. His photo has appeared in daily papers.
