Mangalore : The Karnataka Electric Company employees Union(KEEU) attached to Center of Indian Trade Union (CITU) held a demonstration Rally at AB Shetty circle on Dec.18, to urge the government to honor the charter of demand put forth by its employees working under various contractors in a temporary capacity without any permanent facilities available to permanent employees of the parents electricity producing company(KEC) and its distributing partners like Mescom-Bescom and Gescom, and pressed for these demand to realise at an early date and warned the management of dire consequences if the mangers failed to accept the demands and make the services in various departments a permanent one with equal wages and all facilities give to them like permanent employees.
B.M Bhat Hon. President of KEEU speaking on the occasion told the protestors in the rally that the union had fought for them since a long time to give them security of employment higher and equal wages in line with the permanent staff, PF and other such facilities which are normally provided in every public company for those who have put in long years of service.
He made it clear that employees are fed up of remaining on the temporary register for decades without a rising salary (Which should be Rs. 10,000 per Month) and all the other benefits they deserved in a permanent employment scheme.
He referred to the failure of several negotiation rounds and said that future was bleak for temporary employees working on contract basis or under various contractors who have taken up electric supply under taking.
The employees have demanded that they should be given at least 50% of what the permanent staff is getting every month with a minimum of Rs. 10,000 pm. They also asked for 20 days of paid leave apart from a weekly holyday in every year of service. The contracted workers now on temporary scales should be listed out by the company and an Attendance Register should be kept in every department to maintain regular work.
Employees working in DK, Udupi, Chikmagaloor, Shimogga coming under Mescom, should provided with all staff facilities and their monthly income should be raised to a level of a normal living stander with dignity.
CITU leader K. Vasantha Achary also spoke at the rally in favor of temporary employees of KEEU who are deprived of normal staff benefits.
