Mangalore : Just a day before the Lok Sabha elections polling day, the election duty officers are on in full swing with mustering procedures and official’s allotment at Canara School, Mannagudda on April 16, Wednesday.
As per the instruction of the Polling officers, all the booth-level officers, presiding officers (PROs), and assistant presiding officers (APROs) reported the sector officers along with the EVMs at 9:30 am.
A sector officer has been instructed to carry an extra Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to avoid malfunctioning, since he has to look after 30 to 40 booth stations.
A special police force has been deployed to highly sensitive polling stations, while 75 to 100 Kerala State Armed Police Force (KSAPF) have been deployed in Naxal-affected areas to ensure peaceful polling. As many as 257 buses, 20 mini buses, 135 maxi cabs, 123 jeeps and 16 Lorries will be used for election duty. The food and accommodation have also been arranged for all booth station workers.
Speaking at the press meet Police commissioner R Hitendra said that a total of 62 polling booths have been identified as Naxal-affected, 122 booths as highly sensitive, 227 sensitive and 553 common booths coming under DK police limits.
Apart from it, one contingent of BSF and KLSAP has been deployed tighten the security, while four additional KSRP troops will provide security in the Naxal-affected booths.
Speaking on the Mangalore Assembly constituency, commissioner said that out of 849 polling booths, 85 are identified as very sensitive, 157 sensitive, and 607 common booths. CPMF troops have been deployed to guard the places in sensitive booths.
The four mustering – demustering places are 201-Moodbidri (KPT Kadri, Mangalore), 202-Mangalore City North (Gokarnanatha PU College), 203 Mangalore City South (Canara High School) and 204- Mangalore, Ullal (Ramakrishna Education Institution, Bunts Hostel road).
After the polling day on April 17, EVM’s have locked up in Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Pre-University College, Bondel till the day of counting on May 16.
