Mangalore : Mayor Mahabala Maarla said that Health Officer Dr Manjaiah Shetty, has been directed to present complete details on the population of stray dogs in the city, sterilization measures etc in tge next MCC meet, to be held on August 12.
Speaking at the special meet held at his office on August 8, Friday to discuss on the recent incident of stray dogs, which has mauled a 2 year old child at Kudroli, he said that in the coming days, MCC will launch a programme to check stray dog menace following the measure taken up by Hubli-Dharwad City Corporation to check stray pigs.
Expressing his displeasure over Animal Care Trust Mayor said that the progress registered by the trust located at Shaktinagar over the catching stray dogs and sterilizing them is not as expected.
Speaking on the occasion, Suma Nayak of Animal Care Trust said that the population of stray dogs keeps on increasing since people leave the new born puppies near the market areas. The trust sterilizes 200 stray dogs every month.
Giving the details of sterilization to stray dogs she said that a total of 7,709 stray dogs were sterilized between 2010-2012 she added.
