Mangalore: An international Tulu / Kannada poetry competition awards function organised by the Bahrain based Kanchana Foundation at the local auditorium of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy in Mangalore today, was presided over by its former president Dr. Vamana Nandavara. He said in his address that a budding writer should be well informed to achieve success. Writers seeking perfection have to read and study continuously in their lives, he added.
Vi. Ga. Nayak, a writer and Chief Guest, told the audience that literature alone rectified the mistakes creeping into spoken Kannada language. Appreciating the present efforts at writing through competitions, Nayak asked the younger Tulu/ Kannada writers to polish their language and literature by cultivating an interest in them.
Karwar Akashvani Director, Dr.Vasanth Kumar Perla and researcher, Dr. Vasanth Bhardwaj Kabbinale, were present as chief guests.
Winners of competitions held in last May 2010 were given their awards on the occasion. Awards in 3 categories had Rs.10000, Rs.7000 and Rs.5000 in cash with citations and mementoes. 10 budding writers were picked up for consolation prizes of Rs.2000 each.
In Tulu poetry, M. Rajendra Kedige and in Kannada Poetry, A. Hameed Pakkaladka were awarded the first prizes.
