Udupi: “Literature has no language barriers. Many books from Marathi have been translated to Kannada and vice versa. Kannada has strengthened Marathi by giving three of its words Akka, Anna and Appa,” said Marathi play writer Ananda Maswekar.
He was speaking after releasing a book ‘U Turn’ originally written by him in Marathi at Manipal University Press on Monday.
“Karnataka – Maharashtra boarder dispute is not people’s issue. It is a political issue and it is being politicised. Literature has no boarders. It is beyond boarders. Translating a script into another script is a difficult thing,” he said.
He further said that out of his eight books, U turn is the only book which has been translated to any other language. The play has been played for 585 times in Marathi. It is also translated in Gujarati and Hindi.
The book U Turn was translated by Dr Neeta Inamdaar to Kannada.
Dr Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University, Savitha Shasthri and other were present.
