Mangalore : The Department of English, St Aloysius College, Mangalore is organizing a two-day national level workshop on contemporary Indian drama at the college from January 7 and January 8. Mahesh Dattani, internationally acclaimed playwright is the resource person and will guide the participants through the nuances of theatre in general and teaching drama in particular, said Rev Fr Stanly D’Souza.
Speaking at the press meet held at Teletorium of St Aloysius College on Jan 6, Thursday, he said that the students from all over the world will participate in two days workshop and will discuss the topic with Mahesh Dattani.
Mahesh Dattani speaking to the media persons said that drama is not the struggle in the society but it works for the betterment of the society. The workshop will give him a chance to mingle with the people with diverse nature.
Sharing his experience I China Art Centre, he said that the Chinese actors are quite mixed group and the bit of Chinese opera reminds him of Hindi films. In India, ‘Natya ‘is both used for dance and drama, but in Chinese theater there is disintegration of both.
The roots of Indian English drama goes back to the cantonment drama. So it is fledging. It is the stage of evolving. He also said that, he will be sharing his experiences and personal involvement in the workshop with the students.
