Mangalore : The 2-day national workshop on ‘contemporary Indian drama’ organized by English department of St. Aloysius College was inaugurated at Eric Mattais Hall, St Aloysius College on January 7, Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Dattani, one of the famous Indian-English dramatists said that Mahesh Dattani speaking to the media persons said that drama is not the struggle in the society but it works for the betterment of the society.
Sharing his experience in China Art Centre, he said that the Chinese actors are quite mixed group and the bit of Chinese opera reminds him of Hindi films. In India, ‘Natya ‘is both used for dance and drama, but in Chinese theater there is disintegration of both.
The Chief Guest of the function Pattabi Somayaji, Professor, Mangalore University, briefed the works of Dattani and said about the importance of Dattani’s work in contemporary Indian drama.
Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal of the college, Dr A Lourdusamy, vice-principal and the head of the department were present on the occasion.
