Mangaluru: Police department has formed two separate Anti Rowdy Squads in Mangaluru commissionerate limits to counter growing number of criminal cases and activities of rowdy-sheeters in the city and surrounding areas.
The decision to form two separate anti rowdy squads was also came in the wake of growing number of rowdy-sheeters in the commissionerate limits and recent criminal activities in which three people were lost their lives in Ullal and neighbouring areas.
According an order, an anti rowdy squad has been formed just two days ago in south police subdivision while another squad will be formed to operate from north police subdivision of Mangaluru commissionerate. South subdivision including Konaje, Ullal, Kankanady and others has come under the preview of eight member squad led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rama Rao.
Meanwhile, another anti rowdy squad will be formed soon under supervision of ACP Rajendra DS to tackle the criminal activities in Surathkal, Bajpe, Panambur and other areas. As of now, the police department has no plans to form a separate anti rowdy squad for Mangaluru central police subdivision.
Speaking on the anti rowdy squads, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner TR Suresh has said, the police department has closely watching the rowdy activities and a list including active ex and new rowdies is being prepared by the police to warn them to prevent them from indulging in criminal offence.
“Dakshina Kannada district rowdy sheet includes names of 1,000 rowdies. The rowdy-sheeters are being warned by the police department time to time to prevent them from indulging criminal activities in the district,” said Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy.
