Mangalore : The S K Beedi Workers Federation in association with AITUC organized an Union Convention at Town Hall on July 6, Tuesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, Comrade Dr Siddanagowda Pateel, secretary of CPI state committee, said that today the prices of all essential commodities have been increased. The UPA Government says that the government has incurred the loss of Rs 20 crores, while the each poor family is incurring the loss of Rs 150 per day due to the price hike.
He also said that, BJP had planned to call upon the Bundh on 1st or 2nd July, but they did not have power to alone organize it, hence they joined hands with the other parties like CPI to hold the Bundh.
Most of the people think that, the hike in petrol price is just loss for vehicle owners, but one do not remember that, the hike in petroleum products will further increase price for all essential products, including hike in auto rickshaw and bus fare.
We do not have any enmity with the Union government unlike BJP party, but we called upon Bundh in order support and provide justice to poor people, he said.
Today the Central and State government is trying to decrease the poor people from the country, and not to decrease poverty.
Further the Central and State government will not have any powers on petroleum products, since all the authorities are reserved to the private companies and they will increase it without any notice, he informed.
The twin districts like Udupi and Dakshina Kannada is a basic place for struggling for the labourers because it is place where large numbers of labourers are present, he added.
Comrade B Vishwanath Naik, general secretary of State Beedi Workers Federation, said that the Beedi workers are facing large number of problems. The government has made several changes for the pension for the beedi workers, he added.
