Mangalore: 127 prisoners including 12 women, have taken part in a free medical camp organised by AJ Institute of Medical Sciences along with Prison Ministry India of Delhi.
A large number of these and other prisoners demanded cure for skin-related diseases. All medicines came free to them. The doctors led by Prashant Shetty spent half a day examining and treating them. Jail warden kavitha was present.
Dr. Narendra Shetty stated after diagnosis that most of the prisoners had eczema under lack of hygiene, with bedsheets and clothes being shared by them. They also had scabies and fungal infections, he pointed out.
PMI unit was set up in Mangalore in 1999 to rehabilitate prisoners, organising camps and providing sports or news materials.
