Udupi: The Nalke (Pana) Samaj Seva Sangh leaders are up in arms against a Tulu play “E Nalke Daaye” to be staged in a Billava Samaj competition, as they told Deputy Commissioner Dr. Reju that it contained derogatory, defamatory and denigratory remarks hurting the sentiments of Nalke community members, who sought a ban on it.
A memorandum to that extent was submitted to DC in Udupi on Nov. 23, to rectify matters and ban the Tulu play that was not in food taste. The play is being staged on No 25 at Udyavar, as a Billava samaj entry by their artistes in competition.
The letter pointed to schemes and theme of the play that created ill-feelings towards Nalke society members. The play also went against Daiva (spirit) worship practised in Tulunadu.
The Nalkes wanted a permanent ban on the controversial play that was earlier (on protest) cancelled by the playwright (a Bunt) in a show organised then, the appeal pointed out.
