Mangalore: A lot of situations will develop and opportunities created in near future, for those imbibing higher education, to serve as teachers and professors in the educational field, said Prof. T.C. Shivashankar Murthy, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University (MU) on Thursday, while inaugurating a two-day workshop on Teaching skills at the University college, arranged for college teachers by Mangala Alumni Association, the old students of MU here.
Prof. Murthy disclosed that according to UGC, in the higher education field, vacancies exist upto 50 percent for Assistant professors or lecturers, 49 percent for Associate professors, and 43 percent for Senior Professors, apart from scarcity of deserving and qualified teachers.
By 2020, there is a need to raise the number of Indian universities from 540, and colleges from 32,000 to much higher figures.
Continuous clearing, contemplation, resourceful knowledge and communication skills are needed for every teacher to make the most of his opportunity, Prof. Murthy stated.
Register Dr.K. Chinnappa Gowda also spoke as a resource person. Karnataka Bank Chairman Anantkrishna Bhat presided.
