Mangalore: a former Mayor of Mangalore Municipality Manel Sriniva Nayak, is regarded as the architect of Besant educational institutions complex in city.
He was a businessman, turned social worker, moulded by his father’s benevdent influence, and become an MLA too.
He was clean administrator. In British days, he trusted only education could lift people especially young women, and made empowering of women his constant concern.
Such institutions that MS Nayak limit could not be created by feeble minds on hand-to-mouth existence, without high ideals that encompass a whole society.

Several events were organised by the Besant institutions (named after Annie Besant of Theosophical Society, and a congress president from Britain) to mark the occasion.
President of women’s National Education Society Kudpi Jagdish Shenoy honoured the student achievers. Vice President M. Annappa Nayak honoured staff members of the various Besant institutions.
Prof. P. Gomathi, B. Mohan Nayak, Ganesh Shenoy, Dr. Manjula K.T., and others participated. Cultural programmes followed.
