Mangalore : The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy organized its 4th meet and felicitation ceremony to mark the World Theatre Day at Tulu Sahitya Academy office on March 27, Tuesday.
Presiding over the event, President of the academy Umanath A Kotian said that earlier the dramatists were presenting their talents in the farms at night and the people were enjoying it, but as the years passed, more developments took place in the field and now the number of plays are performed in different place and modern setting are used for it.
He also said that the mono acting in the tulu is very less these days. Earlier the theatre director would not get girls for the girls role and boys would disguise as girls to play the role, But now girls are very interested to perform in the tulu play and theatre.
Today many troupes are presenting the interesting tulu play in twin district. The huge success of ‘Oriyard Ori Asal’ film which has run successfully for 25 weeks in all the theatre in different places is the matter of prestige for tulu academy.
The academy felicitated R K Mangalur, senior theatre director and conferred ‘Tulunad dha Birse’ award to Vijay Kumar Kodialbail for success of film ‘Oriyard Ori Asal’.
Speaking on the occasion, R K Mangalur said that theatre is like a mirror and the audience can take the merits from the play and leave the demerits.
Earlier people used to watch one play and remember it for two years the story and moral based in it, but now the people will watch the play and laugh for two hours and go without taking any moral from it. The present plays have more of comedy and pinch of moral in it, which is like by the youngsters. He also said that today he has received the honour for his contribution to the field of tulu theatre and will always be cherished.
Vijay Kumar Shetty, said that this is the memorable day for the tulu theatre, since these days around 20 to 25 tulu plays and films are getting released in the district.
Further all must join hands with the tulu academy to include tulu in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution. In coming October he also assured to release new tulu films.
Theatre artistes like R K Ullal, KV Shetty Kadri, Sanjeeva S Adyar, Rohini Jagaram, Kishore D Shetty and Jagadish Kenchanakere were present on the dias.
