Mangalore: When the city Police are soft, murderous gangs can be deadly. Here in city on Monday afternoon at 1-30PM a single man was chased by a gang of 5 or 6 brutes in a startling incident, and hacked him to death, with knives on Bibi Alabi road near old harbour locality.
Guruprada(30) was a resident of Bajilkeri, married, and had a child too. He was at a bus-stand at noon, when the gang began chasing him, and he tried to hide in a juice centre. The attackers followed him to use their weapons.
The single man succumbed to his injuries soon. Gang rivalry is stated to be at the root of this relentless, murderous attack.
The owner of the Juice Centre said that the victim was already injured, when he came there. He was running for life, as the gang chased him in the area mercilessly.
Guruprasad, the deceased it appears was involved in the murder of a rowdy, Kadle Manju, in 2009. he was released from jail, for want of evidence in the case then, which was closed.
He worked as a tempo driver earlier. He lost a finger in a previous attempt on his life.
His body is taken to Dt. Wenlock hospital. ACP Vinay Goankar of Bunder North station rushed to the spot, for further enquiry. Police are investigating.
