Mangalore :  The New Mangalore Port Trust  has handled  a record quantity of 1710 TEUs in a single voyage, the highest registered by it so far. The  cargo was from the container vessel  M MV Tiger Mango. The earlier record in this regard was 1512 TEUs from MV Tampabay.

Of the 1710 TEUs handled,  715 were exports and 995 imports. The exported goods included  coffee, cashew kernels, fish etc while the major imported good was raw cashew.

According o NMPT Chairman P Tamilvanan, there has been a steady growth in container traffic at NMPT over the past few years. During the year 2012-13, till date the Port has handled  7818 TEUs compared to 7,281 TEUs last year.
