Bangalore:  Karnataka Women’s Commission Chairperson C Manjula has said that it was a rave party and not a birthday party which was organised at the Morning Mist Homestay at Padil in Mangalore recently.

Participating in a seminar organised by the State Temperance Board, Manjula strongly defended the Commission Report submitted to the government and said the girls were attacked for their ‘drinking habits.’

It may be recalled here that the Commission Report has received criticisms from various corners. However, Manjula argued that young people resorting to immoral activities was more important than the attack on girls.

She also took note of the observation made by the mother of one of the victims Gurudutt Kamath, that she had permitted her son to go to the party and said there is a need to check the background  of such people as also the owner of the Morning Mist home stay.

Manjula was backed by former commission chairman and advocate Prameela Nesargi.
