Mangalore : The act of the police in handcuffing journalist Naveen Soorinje arrested on the homestay attack case, while being produced before the Third JMF Court, on November 20, Tuesday, has raised eyebrows. Soorinje was being escorted by personnel of the District Armed Reserve Police.
This blatant violation of a Supreme Court directive of handcuffing an arrested person, despite him not being a dreaded criminal, has come just a day after the High Court stayed the FIR filed against Naveen.
Soorinje’s Advocate Satish Bantwal, feels his client has been handcuffed just to offend him in public. He said permission has to be obtained from the court to handcuff any accused who has earlier made an attempt to escape.
