Mangalore : Mangalore, Nov 21, 2012: Dr. B. M. Hegde, former vice chancellor of Manipal University inaugurated a campaign against use of plastic bags at Hotel Ocean Pearl on Nov 24, Saturday.
The campaign was jointly organized by Eco Be Green and Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samithi.
He also launched the cotton bags manufactured by members of Self Help groups. Speaking on the occasion, he said that today people are only worried about their personal and family problem and least bothered about the environment.
He also said that the plastic bags are bad for the environment. Further we must start an education system, which will teach about protecting the environment.
Today people became so selfish that they just want them to survive and not others. There are 67 million children alone in India, who suffers from NIDES, caused by Malnutrition.
The organisation is doing a good job by introducing the cotton bags, by the self-help groups so that the ultimately the plastic bags will be discarded.
RTO Mallikarjun said that, if the plastic bags are completely banned, then the programme will get its worth. We find many public places scattered with plastics and this must be avoided, he said.
