Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said on Thursday that farmers can avail benefits of programmes of agriculture and horticulture departments if they uploaded details of their crop through the Farmer’s Crop Survey app on their mobile phones. She was speaking at a training programme for farmers’ organisations, progressive farmers, and college lecturers on the use of crop survey app at the zilla panchayat, here.
Ms. Francis said there are 267 villages in the district and 9.91 lakh land records. Each Village Accountant has been given the responsibility of surveying 3,700 lands. But the crop survey work had got delayed owing to various reasons. Hence, the State government had developed an app which the farmers could use to do the crop survey on their lands.
Farmers having mobile phones with Android facility could go the Google Play Store and download the app titled “Farmer’s Crop Survey” from there. Besides doing the crop survey on their own lands, they could also use it for doing the survey of other farmers in their villages. The registration of Aadhaar number was not compulsory for crop survey.
In order to help the farmers in the process of crop survey, the administration has decided to train interested students from different colleges on using the app. Colleges could forward the list of the students who would be interested in doing this work. The administration will provide the students undertaking the survey work with commendation certificates. These certificates will be useful for them when they seek employment in agriculture and horticulture departments as they would be considered equal to preliminary experience on the land. The students could take up the survey work, when they have time, she said.
In Udupi district, during natural calamities, there was lesser crop loss and the farmers showed little interest in crop insurance. But the farmers were entitled to get just compensation. The crop survey would help the farmers in this regard.
