Mangaluru : Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim has asked the government to appoint an administrator to the Ullal Jumma Masjid where fights have occurred between members of two administrative committees in the past.
In a letter to the Secretary for the Minority Welfare Department recently, Mr. Ibrahim said as many as 50 members from five zones of the Jumma Masjid meet once every five years after Urus and elect new members of the administrative committee. Ullal Qazi chairs this meeting.
In the meeting held on April 26, 49 members took part. The Ullal Qazi and the president of earlier administrative committee failed to attend the meeting. This led some members to leave the meeting. The 25 members who stayed back elected Abdul Rasheed as the president of the new Jumma Masjid administrative committee. Then 23 members led by Qazi elected Abdul Bukhari as interim president of the Masjid committee. In light of the tension between members of the two committees, a decision was taken to lock the administrative office.
Police Commissioner M. Chandrasekhar said frequent clashes among members of the two committees has disturbed peace, he said.
