Udupi: After inaugurating an awareness programme on social security schemes and registration camp, Deputy Commissioner of Udipi Dr.Vishal said that advantage of the social security insurance schemes, must reach all.

Speaking at the Government PU College on Thursday Dr. Vishal said that Poverty is a disease, and the major reason for poverty in the country ill-health. It is a necessity for every person gets covered himself under social security scheme. The Union Government has launched, the health insurance scheme at low premium for all family to take advantage of it he said.

As a first remark, Guruprasad, officer of Vijaya Bank, said that the under Jan Dhan Yojana,aobut 10.17 crore people have opened nearly 7.5 crore banks accounts in the country under the Jan Dhan Yojana, while about 10.17 crore people had been registered under various social security schemes.. Under Prime Minister’s Suraksha Insurance Scheme in Udupi district, 6.8 lakh persons were eligible, .whereas, so far only 1.57 lakh persons (23 per cent) had got registered .

Similarly for Prime Minister’s Jeevan Jyoti Insurance Scheme about 6.5 lakh were eligible in the district, while only 74,000 persons, that is only 13 per cent have registered for it. Even when eligibility for 4 lakh persons were eligible under the Atal Pension Scheme, only 1,582 persons had registered for it in the district, he said.

Official of Oriental Insurance Company, gave details about the Prime Minister’s Suraksha Insurance Scheme and , Divisional Manager of LIC of India, gave information about Prime Minister’s Jeevan Jyoti Insurance Scheme. While an office from Corporation Bank, explained about Atal Pension Scheme,one from Canara Bank gave details of Prime Minister’s Mudra Yojana.
