Mangalore : Narayan Kharvi, the president of , released the second edition of “Kanoon Mahet” authored by advocate Stanly D’Costa at Hotel Gold Finch on Nov 12, Friday.
The chief guests S. P. Chengappa, the president of the Mangalore Bar Association, said that the book written by Mr D’Costa has simplified the work of other lawyers who required a lot of effort to translate the matter to Konkani clients. ‘Ignorance of law is no excuse’, hence the Konkani population must get more information on legal advises from this book, he said.
Chief guest Dr. Edward Nazareth, the orthosurgeon and Konkani writer said that writing a book is not an easy task since it required the full knowledge and commanding language to express their words to their readers. Giving the brief on the book, he said that the book contains the detail and procedure to file the cases for the harassment case, cheating, cyber law, food adulteration and other important cases.
Presiding over the occasion, Narayan Kharvi said that Konkani canot be saved only through reading and speaking. But it can be increased by writing Konkani books which help many readers.
He also said that if one cannot respect the law, he can never respect the people, hence it has been made compulsory to respect our law and order. People must use all the languages to speak but must all respect their mother tongue.
Author D’Costa said that Konkani-speaking community is the largest in DK after the Tulu-speaking community, Konkani-speaking advocates do not make the required efforts to create awareness about the law among the people of the community, and he said that he decided to write books regarding various laws in Konkani so that people could understand the subject better.
The second edition of “Kanoon Mahet” deals with information regarding ten laws, which will be of great help in daily life, he added.
