Mangalore: On the 104th birth anniversary that was celebrated today at the Netravathi auditorium of DK Zilla Panchayat, rich tributes were paid to Babu Jagjeevan Ram, who was a Central minister for 30 years in New Delhi from Bihar, as a Dalit leader.
Chairman of Coastal Development Authoroty, B.Nagaraj Shetty, who spoke on the occasion as a Guest of Honour stated that Jagjeevan Ram was the undisputed leader of Scheduled Castes and Tribes, besides economically weaker sections of the society. Ram was born in a poor family, but the rose to be Dy.PM of Govt. of India. He helped students to pursue higher studies and implemented several plans to uplift the downtrodden by organizing poor feeding and opening new schools, Shetty stated.
MCC Commissioner K.N Vijayprakash, A.C Prabhuling Kavalikatti and former DK ZP Chief Mamatha Gatti were present on the remembrance occasion.
They remembered Jagjeevan Ram as a great achiever for backward classes.
