Mangaluru: Urging the Union government to come out with an Ordinance for building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Sangh Parivar leaders at the Janagraha convention here on Sunday said that the BJP will not come to power in next year’s Lok Sabha election unless their demand is met.

Speaking at the convention, Bajrang Dal’s national convenor Sohan Singh Solanki said that the construction of the temple is the aspiration of many Hindus.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government should respect the sentiments of the people and initiate the process of constructing the temple at the Ramjanmabhoomi.

“There cannot be Achhe Din without the construction of the temple,” he said and added, “The (NDA) government can come back to power only if the temple is constructed.”

Mr. Solanki said that the efforts of the three former Prime Ministers, Rajiv Gandhi, P.V. Narasimha Rao and Chandra Sekhar, to resolve the issue through mutual dialogue have failed. There is less hope of the Supreme Court settling the issue. Hence, there is a demand for Ordinance.

“Like the action taken by the then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with respect to the Somnath Temple, we want the Narendra Modi government to take firm decision in the coming winter session of Parliament,” he said.

Terming the inaction of the government in getting the temple built as nothing but disrespecting the nation, Vishwesha Tirtha, seer of Udupi Pejawar Mutt, said that the NDA government has to respect the sentiments of Hindus. “We have waited for four-and-a-half years hoping for action from the Union government. We have now ran out of patience. A movement has now started to build pressure on the Union government to act,” he said and denied reports that the movement is to help a particular party get more votes.

The seer said that he is keen on forming a committee of senior sadhus and sants and it calling on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him of the need to build the temple. “I hope he will listen and take necessary action to pass an Ordinance or call for a Joint Session of Parliament to pass a law favouring construction of the temple,” he said.

Stating that there will be no compromise on the issue of temple construction, the seer urged the MPs to be prepared to sacrifice their posts to meet the demand.
