Mangaluru: A state-level celebration of the Brahmasri Narayana Guru Jayanti will be held in Mangaluru on September 10, culture energy and Kannada minister V Sunil Kumar said on Monday.

Presiding over a preparatory meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office, Kumar said Narayana Guru Jayanti will be celebrated this year meaningfully in the coastal city, instead of Bengaluru.

“Narayana Guru Jayanti was being celebrated in Bengaluru every year. However, we have decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of the social reformer in Mangaluru this year. This celebration does not limit it to a community, but it should be celebrated by all people together,” Kumar said.

A procession with the participation of various cultural organisations will be held as part of the celebration at 4 pm on September 10. Resource persons will deliver talks on Sri Narayana Guru at a meeting at the TMA Pai International Convention Centre at 6 pm, he said.
