City residents will get regularly drinking water from May 01

Kavita SanilMangaluru: The 60 wards residents in Mangaluru city will get drinking water on daily basis from May 01 said  Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Kavita Sanil.

Speaking at a press meet at MCC here, She said, the water level at Thumbe as on Tuesday was 4.22 metres. “We have ensured release of water stored at upstream AMR Power Project at Shamboor to prop up the water level at Thumbe to its current full capacity of 5 metres,” and this will enable MCC to provide water on a daily basis to all its constituents, there will be no restriction and water will be supplied to all residents under MCC. she said.

For the time-being, Thumbe vented dam, the major water source of the city, contains water storage of 4.18 meter. According to the decision taken by MCC, water will be released from AMR dam to Thumbe to raise its existing water storage to 5 meter. A communication already sent by MCC to concerned authorities to release water from AMR dam immediately.For the timebeing, drinking water is being supplied for four days a week in the city.

Deputy mayor Rajaneesh and former mayor Harinath and Shashidar Hegde and others were present.
