Mangalore : MLA U. T. Khader alleged that CM Sadananda Gowda has not given any compensation package to DK tobacco growers in the budget and has cheated them.
He was speaking at the press meet held at District Congress office on Thursday March 29, tobacco growers had incurred heavy financial during 2011 – 12 because of the crops affected by fruit rot disease. But when CM visited them the growers in Puttur, he had assured to give a compensation package to them but finally failed to do so.
On his visit, he also said that state government had asked tobacco growers to submit applications for compensation and accordingly district administration submitted a draft of losses incurred and requested government to sanction Rs. 1.75 crore as compensation for the tobacco growers. Even though CM assured to sanction the package, he has failed to mention it in the state budget too, he said.
He said that if state government would not sanction the compensation, then why they had asked tobacco growers to submit applications for compensation costing Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 for each.
