Manipal: A large gathering of about 3000 students, protested outside the deemed Manipal University buildings, on March 15 till 7PM demanding suspension of Dr. Kumkum Garg, and her suspension was finally announced by the MIT administration, in view of a MIT bus accident, due to reckless driving by a driver on the Hostel premises which ended in the death of a second-year student, Ishan Nilani from Rajasthan state.
Ishan was standing on footboard of the college bus,When the negligent driver tried to negotiate a deep turn, and Ishan was thrown out of the college bus, with head injuries.
He was taken to KMC hospital in a state of coma, caused by cerebral hemorrhage, as he was also suffering from asthma, and the bus accident proved fatal.
Sympathetic fellow students met director of the Institute, Dr. Kumkum Garg who refused to suspend the rash driver. She found fault with the student instead.
Irate students at large, demanded her own suspension, and that took place. The driver has not been arrested by the local police.
