Mangalore : Members of Karnataka State Electricity Employees Union (KSEEU) in association with Electricity Employees Federation of India under the aegis of CITU staged a protest in front of MESCOM’s office on September 24, Tuesday demanding to provide a minimum salary of Rs 15,000 per month to the contract-based employees.

Addressing the protestors, CITU chief secretary Vasanth Acharya, said that the contract-based employees have been working for more than ten years but still they are remained as temporary workers.

He also said that they are been deprived from getting the facilities and are often being threatened by contractors to remove from job. Hence the authorities must appoint them as permanent workers with the minimum pay of Rs 15,000 per month as salary along with providing PF and ESI facilities to these employees.

Acharya said that, when MESCOM calls for the appointment for the vacant posts they must consider at least 50 percent reservation for the existing contract-based employees.

He also said that the employees have been protesting for demands from three years but still the demands have not been fulfilled. Although the protestors have approached MESCOM authorities last month with the demands, it went in vain.
