Hailing the court’s decision, JD(S) leader MC Nanaiah said, “This is an eye-opener for all Chief Ministers, politicians who violate law.” The court also denied bail to former minister SN Krishnaiah Setty, another accused along with Yeddyurappa.
Congress Spokesperson Renuka Chaudhry said, “Yeddyurappa has to face the consequences, it’s ironic that the order has come when Advani is on his anti-corruption yatra.” “Advani should have started his yatra from Karnataka. It would have given his yatra little more credibility, ” said Choudhary. BJP MLA Hemachandra Sagar has also been granted bail in the case.
Earlier the Karnataka High Court had also rejected his bail plea. Yeddyurappa’s sons and son-in-law have also been asked to submit audit details of their firms. The hearing was in connection with two private complaints relating to alleged corruption in the denotification of the government land.
In the complaint filed by city-based advocate Sirajin Basha, Yeddyurappa and five others including his sons and son-in-law were accused of irregularities in denotifying government land in Rachenahalli in Bangalore South taluk which caused an estimated loss of about Rs 40 crore to the state exchequer.
