Udupi: About 1500 CPI (M) activists from all over Karnataka gathered in Udupi and took a protest march through streets from Ajjarkade to the venue of car street of Sri Krishna Temple governed by paryaya sode Math monk, on Thursday morning, when Udupi citizens were busy attending Republic Day functions. (Jan.26).
Addressing the atheist protestors at starting point near Martyrs memorial, at 11 AM in Ajjarkade grounds, state secretary, G.V. Srirama Reddy pointed to caste practices prevailing in Hindu temples across the state as in Udupi. He said CPI (M) believed in equality of all people in society.
Driven by blind beliefs of uppers castes people get discriminated as high and low, but do not voice about it. He referred to recent samajotsavathat stirred up a hornets nest.
Secretary C.N. Nagaraj demanded a curb on divisive practices of the state and the monasteries, which ignore the vertrees of Hinduism.
Local president B. Madhava said CPI (M) was the hope of victims of a caste system. K. Neela of women’s wing also spoke at the meet.
