Mangalore: Deputy Commissioner Dr NS Channappa Gowda has emphasized the need for the district to tap its full tourism potential considering the fact that lakhs of people visit several tourist destinations as well as pilgrim spots in the district.
He was speaking at a function organized in the city on the occasion of World Tourism Day on September 27, Thursday. The DC said on an average one crore devotees visited various pilgrim shrines in the district annually and added there is a need to encourage such devotees to visit other tourist destinations in the district.
Referring to home stays, he said there has arisen a misconception on home stays ever since there has been an attack on Morning Mist home stay in Mangalore and emphasized the need to create conducive atmosphere for tourists.
The chief guests of the occasion were Mayor Gulzar Banu, MCC Commissioner Yatish Kumar, KCCI Chairman Mohammad Ameen, Yatish Baikampady, CEO of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project and others.
