Sullia : SDPI activist arrested following a complaint by Prashant Rai, a local BJP worker alleging a death threat over phone.

Dakshina Kannada police arrested Safreed, brother of Praveen Nettaru’s murder case accused.

Prashant Rai, a local BJP worker from Bellare and the manager of a private firm had complained against Safreed to Bellare police alleging that he was verbally abused and given a death threat. The complainant said that Safreed called him over the phone and verbally abused and threatened to eliminate him.

On Sunday the police arrested Safreed from Bajpe near Mangaluru. Safreed is said to be an SDPI activist and is the brother of Shafiq of Bellare, who is an accused in the Praveen Nettaru murder case.

Tensions prevailed for some time as more than 100 Hindu activists gathered near the police station on Saturday, when Mr. Rai went to lodge his complaint. The crowd expressed their anguish over the incident and demanded swift action.
