Mangalore: The prestigious “Sarojini Naidu Prize 2012” for best English reporting on Women and Panchayat Raj given by The Hunger Project was conferred on Sandhya Christabel D’Souza, journalist from Deccan Herald, Mangalore at India International Centre, New Delhi on October 1.
The award that carried a citation and prize money of Rs 2 Lakh was presented by Gursharan Kaur wife of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, in presence of Krishna Tirath Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Norwegian Ambassador Eivind S Homme and Managing Editor of NDTV Sreenivasan Jain.
The winning article “Laila Ladies Ensure Safety” published in Deccan Herald on June 2, 2012 was selected among the 1259 entries for the Sarojini Naidu Prize 2012.
The jury for the Sarojini Naidu Prize 2012 comprised Chairman of Institute of Social Sciences Dr George Mathew, Co-Founder of Kali for Women Padmashree Urvashi Butalia, Director of Women’s Feature Service Pamela Philipose, Vice Chairman of MYRADA Dr S S Meenakshi Sundaram, and Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti Director Manimala.
