DK mourns great visionary Kalam

Kalam District Administration Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada District Administration, on Tuesday, paid rich tributes to former President A P J Abdul Kalam, who died at Shillong while addressing IIM students, on Monday.

Speaking after offering floral tribute to the portrait of Kalam, District-in-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai said Kalam was a great visionary who had contributed to the development of science and technology in the country.

He had carved a niche for himself in the world of science. Hailing from a poor background, he rose to greater heights through hard work and dedication, he added.

He was a humanist who believed in secular principles. “Kalam endeared himself to the youth, particularly students. As per his wish, no holiday has been declared for government offices. As a mark of respect to him, we will conduct tri-monthly KDP meeting,” he said.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader said Kalam was popularly known as People’s President and was loved by all. He wanted to bring in changes in society through technology. “By dedicating his life to ignite young minds, especially students, Kalam delivered series of lectures across the country in various institutions of the country. He inspired youth of India to make use of science and technology for human welfare,” said Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports Abhayachandra Jain.

“By envisaging Vision 2020, Kalam had given a new dream and hope to the Country. He was a model for students and teachers,” said Zilla Panchayat president Asha Thimmappa Gowda.
