Mangalore : The prestigious Legal Education Award for 2011, instituted by Society of Indian Law Firms and Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training for entrepreneurship and creativity among young law teachers, has been bestowed upon Dr.Shashikala Gurpur will be presented to her on September 10 in New Delhi by the Central Law minister, Salman Khurshid.
The citation says Dr. Shashikala was a law teacher who turned leader, and innovated or restructured legal education for the benefit of her students from a young age. She reformed the Law school in 5 years, by implementing new agendas taking fresh initiatives.
She revised the syllabus, introduced an academic engagement with local communities. She established a European Union Law study centre.
Dr. Gurpur was born in Mangalore in December 1964. She took a Law Degree from Mangalore university in 1988 and passed LL.M. in International Law from Mysore University in I rank with 2 gold medals. In 2002, she did her PhD in International law.
