Priyanka, a 25-year-old from Daregudde in Moodbidri, reportedly eloped with a youth named Hyder, has reportedly drafted a letter to her family members saying she is happy and they stop searching for her.

The letter states that the couple would soon produce themselves before the court. It further reads that Priyanka had shot letters to the district deputy commissioner, district superintendent of police and Moodbidri police station.

However, Priyanka’s mother has cast aspersions on the letter saying the handwriting did not match with that of Priyanka. The mother’s contention is that a third party has written the letter in the name of Priyanka to change the course of the case. The letter has been sent from Sajipa near Inoli. Incidentally, Hyder hails from Inoli.

The letter has been handed over to the Moodbidri police station. Police officials have said investigation would be undertaken based on the letter.

Priyanka was supposed to enter wedlock on December 11 with her boyfriend of six years. However, she went missing on December 9 night. Ever since the beginning, saffron outfits have been alleging that it as a case of Love Jihad.

Priyanka was in a relationship with Dinesh, a local, for six years. Their marriage was fixed for December 11 and the mehendi ceremony was held a few days ago. However, a Hyder from Farangipete, allegedly “brainwashed” her. He allegedly kept depositing money, amounting thousands of rupees, in Priyanka’s account in the last few days before eloping, as told by BJP leader from Moodbidri Jagadish Adhikari

According to Adhikari, Priyanka’s family members had the habit of consuming juice late in the night. On the day of elopement, she had given them juice laced with a sedative and as they slipped into deep sleep, Priyanka allegedly escaped with Hyder. According to the complaint, the woman has taken along with her, 10 sovereigns of gold – which her mother arranged with great difficulty for her wedding – passport and Aadhaar card among other items.

The villagers had seen a white car plying towards Priyanka’s house in the midnight and that there were four-five youngsters in it. He alleged that these youths, including Hyder, had arrived there to pick Priyanka.
