Mangalore: The Mangalore City Foot Path Vendors in association with Congress party, CPIM, JDS, SFI, Autoricksaw Drivers Association, DYFI and other association staged 24 hours dharna against the clearance of foot path vendors by the city corporation, in front of Mangalore City Corporation on June 15, Wednesday.
Delivering the inaugural address Corporator Mariamma Thomas, said that earlier the people in the country were struggling to get rid of British people, but now the people of the state must struggle to get rid of BJP government.
She also said that, the people in the power must not forget that every people born in the country are the citizens and not only the members of Rastriya Seva Sangha (RSS).
The problem has occurred to the people of the city, since they have given the power of ruling the state in the hands of uneducated politicians, she said.
MG Hegde, General Secretary of Janata Dal (Secular) said that today every city have the foot path vendors, in this case why it is only restrict in Mangalore. It is proved that only because of small business run by foot path vendors, the country has not faced financial crisis.
He also said that, the name of the foot path clearance must be changed from Civic Tiger to Pig, since the wild pig always destroys the food of the people. The MCC has also assured to establish Vendor’s street in the city, but who knows when it will be setup.
Prof Rita Naronha, said that according to law, the vendors are allowed to sell the products in the natural market. Today the human rights are being violated and the vendors have right to go against the violators, she added.
