Govt must provide license for gun for the cow protection: M B Puranik

Cattle smugglingMangalore : Cattle smuggling cases as well as the unauthorized abattoirs have seen a rise ever since the Congress Government came to power in the state, alleged Prof M B Puranik, divisional working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishat.

Addressing the media at the press meet held at Hotel Woodlands Hall on Aug 6, Tuesday, said that the congress government has rejected the Anti Cow Slaughter Bill introduced by the BJP government and continued the law of 1964, but even it restricts the slaughtering of a calf and a milking cow unless the veterinary doctor gives the certificate of ‘fit to Transport’.

There are many cow thefts in the district, but hardly few of them have been reported. Earlier we used to catch the people while transporting the cows, but later the police officials have warned not to take law in hands instead inform them when they get the information. But even after informing the police, they could have stopped only one or two transporting vehicle out of 10, he said.

Cattle smugglingJagadish Shenava, district working president of VHP said that the government must their four demands like giving compensation of Rs 50,000 for each cow to the victims, providing license to purchase a gun for the protection of their cow, forming a special police squad at the district level to combat the cow theft completely and establishment of ‘Grama-Gorakshadala’ involving locals for the protection of the cows.

The cow theft victims like, Mahadevi from Suratkal, Vidyadhar Hegde from Mucchuru, Chandrahas and Antony D’Souza from Jappinamogaru, Ganesh Mayya from KC Road of Ullal, Shekar Shetty, Sharath Mudipu, Devdas Manjanady and others shared their grievance to lose their cows which the only source of their income.

Dinesh Pai, VHP Divisonal Goraksha Pramuk, Gopal Kutthar, VHP secretary, Bhujang Kulal, district convener, Bajarangdal, Pradeep Pumpwell, district Goraksha Chief of Bhajarangdal were present.
