Mangalore: Gretta Rebello, Corporator of Kadri – Shivabagh ward has been conferred Bharath Jyothi and “Glory of India Gold Medal’ by Bhishma Narain Singh, former governor of Tamil Nadu and Assam at a seminar held in Delhi recently.
The awards were presented during a seminar on “Economic Growth and National Integration” on behalf of India International Friendship Society and International Institute of Success and Awareness for meritorious service, outstanding performance and individual excellence in recognition of sterling merit.
Gretta, a resident of Bejai, is an avid social worker, who, as a corporator has been trying hard to solve problems of people of her ward.
Gretta Rebello has been the president of the Mahila Wing of Dakshina Kannada District of the Indian National Trade Union Congress(INTUC) since 2002. She has also been helping the marginalized sections of the society such as widows, handicapped and senior citizens to procure their pension and medical help.
She is nominated member of the Central Advisory Committee, Ministry of Labour and Employment (Govt of India); vice-president of DK District Congress Minority Department; and vice-president of the Konkani Natak Sabha (Mangalore).
Gretta Rebello has written, directed and choreographed more than 100 dance shows in Kannada and Konkani including ballets.
Gretta Rebello is the wife of Clarence Rebello, an ex-serviceman and an avid hockey player.
