Mangaluru : Heavy rain continued to lash across Dakshina Kannada since Friday and Saturday due to the cyclonic circulation over Telangana.
Red alert has been declared in the district for two days on September 20 and 21.
Normal life has been thrown out of gear and vehicular traffic has been disrupted due to the heavy rains. Landslides and waterlogging has been reported from several areas in the twin districts.
At Neermarga in the city, a concrete road leading to Katinje caved in. The road has split into two and a nearby electric pole too has fallen down.
Two persons sustained injuries and have been hospitalised after a portion of a house collapsed at Alape.
Nandini and Shambhavi rivers were swollen and low-lying areas near Kinnigoli were submerged. Kilenjoor, Panja, Balkunje, Attur and other areas near Kinnigoli were inundated.
NDRF forces have been deployed to evacuate affected families. Several houses along Mulky-Balkunje route have been submerged.
In Adyapady near Bajpe, access road was cut off following a landslip. Traffic movement has been suspended in this route as a precautionary measure.
Sources said that two persons sustained injuries after a house collapsed at Saripalla. They have been admitted to hospital.
There is waterlogging in areas such as Jeppnimogaru, Kudroli and others. A tree was uprooted at Falnir, causing traffic disruption.
