Customs officers seized 789.950 grams gold at MIA once again

Mangalore International AirportMangalore : The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport have once again busted another modus operandi and detected concealment of gold in the baggages of the passenger coming from Dubai and as a result seized gold totally weighing 789.950 grams in two separate cases totally valued at Rs.24,09,347/-. In the first case, the officers seized 01 (One) gold sheet and one gold rod, totally weighing 351.350 grams and valued at Rs.10,71,617/- concealed in a cream wafer tin and a marker pen and further concealed in a carton box from the possession of a passenger named Shri. Jaiyafar Chala Muhammed Kunhi Haji, who is a resident of Chala House, Vidya Nagar PO, Kasaragod Dt., Kerala and arrived at Mangalore International Airport on 18.02.2014 at about 05.30 hrs by Jet Airways fight 9W531 from Dubai.

In the second case, the officers have seized 18 (eighteen) sets of silver colour paint coated gold hook holders and hook bar holders for trousers, totally weighing 438.600 grams and valued at Rs.13,37,730/- concealed in the trousers kept in a carton box from the possession of a passenger named Shri. Noushad Mouval, who is a resident of Thachangad House, PO Mouval, Via Pallikere, Kasaragod Dt., Kerala-671316 and arrived at Mangalore International Airport on 18.02.2014 at about 07.30 hrs by Air India Express flight IX814 from Dubai.

In both the cases it is noticed that the smugglers have resorted to unique methods of concealing the goods by fabricating/moulding the gold in various shapes and concealing the same in their baggages.
