Mangalore : In connection with the recent explosion at quarry, the Mulky police arrested an owner and supervisor of a stone quarry at Nelligudde, Aikala, near Kinnigoli on May 5, Monday.
The arrested are identified as Santosh Menezes, a resident of Bondel and Dennis Menezes, who was in charge of the quarry.
It is recalled that, the recent explosion had destroyed the houses belonging to the workers, killing Erichamma (53) and Paraman Uttandy (25) from Konagapadi in Salem, Tamil Nadu in the incident. Later after conducting the post mortem at Mulky primary health centre, the bodies were handed over to their kin.
Apart from them, workers Nagaraj from Shimoga, his wife, Yashoda, as well as Pooja, residing at nearby house were seriously injured and were provided treatment at Mulky government hospital on Monday.
Mulky police circle inspector, Ramachandra Nayak, is leading the investigation in this regard.
According to the police, the specific causes for this explosion is not yet known, but with the help of explosives experts and sniffer dogs, the explosive materials, pieces of bodies, and other things which were found from the spot, which had been dispatched to forensic lab for testing.
Apart from it, Ammonium nitrate, gelatin sticks and explosive materials used for detonation purposes in stone quarries were found from the room of the house, which may get a spark due to the gas ignited from the gas stove.
After the interrogation, the arrested persons would be produced before the court.
