Surathkal: The members of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Surathkal staged a protest near Surathkal junction on July 31, Thursday condemning the state government for granting relief fund to cattle theft Kabir’s family who was shot down by ANF personnel at Sringeri checkpost recently.
Addressing the protestors, Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Satyajit Surathkal, said that despite of knowing the fact that Kabir was transporting cattle illegally, the state government has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh to his family. This shows that the government is favouring Muslim community.
He urged the government to withdraw he fund immediately.
Former Mayor Rajni Dugganna ahesh Murthy Surathkal, Jayaram Acharya, Ganapathy Bangera and others participated at the protest.
It is recalled that Kabir along with his four associates were travelling in a pick-up truck transporting cattle who were stopped by forest check-post for a routine check at around 3.30 am on April 19. When Kabir tried to escape the ANF constable Naveen G Naik shot Kabir to death mistaking him, to be a Naxalite.
As per the complaint filed by Umar Farooq who was with Kabir in the truck President’s gallantry medal winner was arrested on April 25.
