Sullia: A wild elephant was electrocuted in a farm at Herakaje in Subrahmanya forest range here on August 8.
The wild elephant had entered to the farm in search of food on Aug 7 night around 10.30, when a dog seeing the elephant it started to bark. Chinnappa Gowda of the farm owner heard the dog’s howl. Next day morning he went to the farm and found the dead elephant body in the gutter, immediately he informed the forest department.
The forest officials O Palaiah, Assistant Sub-Divisional Forest Conservator, Mangalore, Subbaiah Naik, Praveen Kumar Shetty and Balakrishna Acharya, Forest Officers and staff visited the spot.
Sources said, as a tree fell on the wire, the wire broke which in turn came in contact with the elephant and died.
The elephant is aged 25 years said Forest Conservator of the Subrahmanya forest range.
In the help of locals forest officials performed the final rites of the elephant.
