‘Nirbhaya Centre’ to set up in every district for victims of women atrocity

Amita PrasadMangalore : Dr. Amita Prasad, principal secretary, women and child development department, Bangalore said that the ‘Nirbhaya Centre’ will come up in every district in the state for the women suffering from atrocity.

She was speaking at the sidelines of a workshop held on Sexual Harassment of women at work place’ (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal), organized by Administrative Training Institute, Mysore in association with Karnataka State Commission for women, Bangalore, at Zilla Panchayath on September 9, Tuesday.

Dr Amitha said that the centre will provide medical, legal, police, counseling, shelter and psychological support services for women under one roof since the victims face tremendous physical, emotional and psychological trauma after the atrocity incident.

The centre will be open for 24 hours with services such as lists of hospital, police station, lawyers and counselors will be available at the centre.

In the programme, Deputy commissioner A.B Ibrahim said that the women are more than men in our district. As per 2011 census, there are 1022 women for every 1000 men, while in five years around 1,113 atrocities cases against women were registered and 710 were solved.
